The recipe called for walnuts inside and chocolate hearts on top. They ended up with hazelnuts inside (the store was out of walnuts) and chocolate pebbles on top. I tend to regard recipes as guidelines and can hardly remember the last time I followed a recipe to the letter. Norwegian readers can find the not-quite-followed-recipe at Matprat.no.
The most important bit: They were good and the pebbles on top got the proper surprised reaction from our guest who hadn’t seen anything like that… have I ever said how much fun it is to shop at Jane’s Cakes in Montrose, California? That’s where we found the pebbles.
