Saturday snapshot – On the Llangollen Canal

Today I have more pictures from our vacation in Wales and England.

We rented a 68 feet long narrowboat called Tanglewood for two weeks. We picked it up in Trevor, close to Llangollen, and set out for Chester.

To participate in Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken. Photos can be old or new, and can be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. All Alyce asks is that you don’t post random photos that you find online.

Saturday Snapshot – Summer sunset

Glancing out the window last evening around 2230 (1030pm for some people) I saw this…and ran for my camera. The colors were even better live.

Beautiful Rosendal!

The County Library has an excellent tradition of arranging the annual summer meeting for alle the public libraries in Hordaland at different places in the county, and this year we are at beautiful Rosendal. It could hardly be better: the weather is great, the location is georgeous, the hotel is good and has free wireless Internet (this is important for nerds) and tonight we are going to a concert with Leif Ove Andsnes at Baroniet Rosendal.

Sun rash and “fresh air”

The farmer next door to the Haugland center is eagerly spreading manure on his fields every night. Everything smells and this doesn’t lead to universal cheers among us at the center. Strange!

Apart from the smell om spring on the farm we’re having a good time in great weather. I’ve developed a sun rash, so nothings new. I’ve bought spf40 and I guess it’ll pass in a few day as it usually does.

Yesterday we went on a hike to Jarstadheia. It was a nice walk on a lovely day. It was also nice to discover that I was looking forward to climbing up there, I wouldn’t have done that a year ago.

Spring fever

My first little touch of spring fever came a few weeks ago at a tournament commitee meeting at Bjørnefjorden Golf Club. Just planning this years tournaments was enough. The second, and hopefully more lasting case, came this week. The days have been mild and the first plants has started popping out of the ground. I’m actually bad enough hit by this spring fever to have planned to take a hike up to the top of The Damsgård Mountain just behind where I live on Sunday. It’s not that high, just over 300 meters (ca 1030 ft), but at least you have to walk uphill. A friend of mine is coming along too, it’s always easier to get things like this done when you’re doing it with someone else.

My dad is getting better. The doctors think they got the whole tumor but still wants him to take some chemotheraphy. We keep our fingers crossed. Apart from working and visiting my dad I’ve been hanging out with friends. My team actually won at Trivial Pursuit Globetrotter against some fairly competitive people on the other team – twice. Janneke is probably going to want a rematch. On Wednesday Sølvi and I played squash and had fun as always. Yesterday I went out to dinner and a movie with my friends Lise and Kristin. We saw Hollywoodland and I tought it was pretty good. Tonight I don’t have any plans except relaxing at home. My cat’ll be shocked to have me around (awake even) for several hours. Yes Tina, I will put a picture of myself on flickr, someday….

Good and less good things happening.

Well, I finally got my flickr photos widget in my Norwegian blog too and Sølvi got hers in her blog, so now I’m quite pleased with myself. Many thanks to Thomas who pointed me in the right direction. This weekend I’ve had fun trying out a new camera we bought at work, really annoying my family with all the flashing in their faces. It’s really good, and I really want one for myself. It won’t be this month, maybe some other time.

My Dad is having a operation today. He has a tumor in his stomach and has been ill for a while. I hope everything is going OK, and guess I’ll hear from my Mum later today. We’re all worried, but there’s not much we can do. So we’ll just have to wait and see.

Blog in English

This blog was first started as part of a course I attended, but I’ll gradually transform it into my personal blog in English. I already have one in Norwegian, but some people I know seem to have trouble reading that. Can’t imagine why. I can read English 🙂

The metamorphosis will not be done in a day, so be patient.
